Grumpy’s Restaurant Named One of FSR’s Next-Gen Casual Restaurant Brands by FSRMagazine.com.

These 20 full-service restaurants with fewer than 20 locations are worth watching - they may soon conquer the industry.

The fill-service restaurant segment runs both wide and deep. It encompasses major chains with hundreds of locations, as well as singe-unit mom and pops that stay small but no less extraordinary. In terms of shaking up the greater industry, perhaps no group does it quite as well as the up-and-coming, emerging brands. With each new store opening, their reach and influence expands, and successful concepts also improve as they grow by streamlining processes and refining menus.

Because these restaurants have the potential to scale far beyond their home markets and change the larger dining landscape, it’s worth highlighting the ones that could be the next generation of top brands. Last year was hardly a hospitable business environment, but these 20 restaurants under 20 units have demonstrated enough determination and brand differentiation to be worth betting on.

We Celebrate National Eggs Benedict Day With Our Grumpy’s Fried Chicken Benedict!

April 16th is National Eggs Benedict Day that celebrates a long favored breakfast or brunch dish.

Did you know, traditional Eggs Benedict consists of poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce and Canadian bacon or ham on English muffin halves.

There are two different stories as to how Eggs Benedict came to be.

  • In 1894 stockbroker Lemuel Benedict ordered “buttered toast, poached eggs, crisp bacon, and a side of Hollandaise” at the Waldorf Hotel. They were so impressed with the dish that they put it on the menu, substituting ham and English muffins in place of the bacon and toast.

  • In the early 18th century, Pope Benedict XIII liked an egg dish so much that he requested it time and time again. Many believe that Pope Benedict XIII had an illness that added to his desire for this particular egg dish, hence the name Eggs Benedict.

Jacksonville entrepreneur earns recognition as one of the innovators who dared the impossible in 2020

March 08, 2021 // Franchising.com // JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Grumpy’s Restaurant president and CEO, Daniel DeLeon, has been recognized as one of FSR’s 29 Rising Restaurant Stars. Grumpy’s is no stranger to earning awards for its delicious food, work environment and outstanding leadership, and FSR’s award continues to prove the brand’s continued commitment to delivering the highest quality dining experience at an affordable price to families everywhere.

Dubbed the restaurant rescuer by FSR, in 2017 he purchased and turned around the floundering Grumpy’s and made it a successful franchise in 2019. Before taking the helm at Grumpy’s, DeLeon had not only owned and operated multiple restaurant franchise locations, but also grew six local businesses from the ground up. After having a successful career as a multi-unit franchisee, it’s no wonder he was able to completely transform Grumpy’s into the award-winning brand it is now.

During Covid-19, he gave up a part of his salary so that his staff can continue to bring home a paycheck, despite dining rooms being closed in the state of Florida. Daniel then, with the help of his employees, organized a produce giveaway for residents who couldn’t afford groceries. In addition, Grumpy’s gave back to frontline workers by allowing anyone to contribute and gift a meal to the workers, as well as people in need in the community and Grumpy’s matched each donation.

“Despite coronavirus shutting the doors of many restaurants, Grumpy’s has prevailed through these challenges and we are even opening new locations in the near future,” said DeLeon. “Our team showed how tough restaurants had to be to survive unprecedented times in the industry and FSR’s recognition is a huge honor for our restaurants.”

Restaurant owner earns the distinction of one of 2021’s most influential restaurant CEOs

With NRN only identifying a select few CEOs from the record number of submissions it received this year, over 500 in total, DeLeon joins exclusive company thanks to his outstanding leadership in 2020.

Earlier this year, DeLeon has also been recognized as one of FSR’s 29 Rising Restaurant Stars of 2021. This accolade is wildly impressive, as there are two open restaurants, another opening in July, two more in development for 2021 and current plans to grow the brand even further.
